PHILIPPINES Mobile 3G is now cheaper than DSL!

Monday, December 21, 2009

Via Yugatech blog:  Let’s look at how much a 1Mbps to 3Mbps residential DSL costs nowadays:
PLDT myDSL 2Mbps: Php1,995 (DSL only)
Globe Broadband 2Mbps: Php1,995 (DSL w/ free Landline)
Bayan DSL 1.5Mbps: Php1,699
Sky Broadband 2Mbps: Php1,999
The sky broadband speed listed above is for non-skycable subscriber, if you are a skycable user, it is 3Mbps..

Now let’s look at a rundown of unlimited mobile 3G by the networks and see if the prices are cheaper or not:
Sun Wireless Broadband 2Mbps – Php799
SmartBro Plug-It 2Mbps – Php999
Globe Tattoo 2Mbps – Php1,200

Comments in Yugatech blog

Well, it is true that they are cheaper but if you put in reliability and consistency into the mix, I’d still pay for a fix line.  It is very inconsistent and not as reliable as a wired connection. There’s lot of capping policies even though Telcos do not admit this directly to its customers.  ..........been using both a wired and wireless DSL and I should say that my wired one never fails as often and gives a consistent connection

Its nationwide but 3G is limited to metro areas blog review of Plug-it

Blogger midnightpencit reports:  So what can I say about it? One, it is nationwide. But don’t get your hopes up either. If your line of work requires you to be plugged in and moving, this is the best one for you. Alas, the 3G services is not nationwide. Only key cities outside of Metro Manila have 3G signal, so there’s no chance that it would help you towards making sure that signal would be strong outside of Metro Manila. Aside from this, downloading software slows down over ten minutes. The system seems to have some sort of built in restrictions for downloading stuff similar to Sun Cellular. And if you are an online gamer, this system is definitely not for you as signal moves up and down and it is only best for emails and surfing the internet. SMART UNLIMITED PLUG-IT PLAN for P999

Friday, December 4, 2009

From tipidpc a blogger writes " called smartbro yesterday to inquire regarding their P799 and P1500 Plan Plug-it. To my suprise, I was told that they have terminated the said plans and replaced it with UNLIMITED PLUG-IT PLAN for P999 starting yesterday, it's like they lowered the UNLIMITED P1500 plan to P999 and removed the P799 plan.

Today, I just got home from smart wireless center and my application got approved, unfortunately they run out of units. I was advised that there were approx 100 approved application particularly in Smart Wireless Center in Araneta Gateway alone since they opened the new plan yesterday. Availability of the unit (usb modem) will be next week and will just notify me if it's ready for pickup.

I hope that this won't be like SUN where they provide UNLIMITED internet connection yet with capped bandwidth.

I just though of sharing this with you as some of you might be interested ^_^  "  This is from Tipidpc website

Smart 1 day unlimited internet for only 50 pesos 3G

Thursday, December 3, 2009

Update March 31, 2011

Smart has restarted the 50 peso a day unlimited surfing just like SUN. But the added hassle with SMART is that you get charged for every load you send  and must maintain a one peso load while SUN is more customer friendly not charging additional for the broadband loading or requiring any remaining balance after the broadband load. This hassle should be elimated from SMART unli broadband as they are getting your money to load why make it more hassles?

For just P200, get 5 days of unlimited surfing -- that's just P40 per day! smart  To register, text UNLISURF 200 to 2200! For P50, you get unlimited fun for one whole day!  To register, text UNLISURF 50 to 2200 from your SmartBro account.  You may also log on to www.smart.com.ph/connect

Reference:
Network Settings:  Go to TOOLS, Options, Profile Management, New
1. SMART Postpaid   Profile Name : SMART Postpaid

2. SMART Prepaid Profile Name : SMARTPrepaid Select Static  APN : internet   Access number : *99#
Save Activate SIM: text MMS ON send to 3401

I am not sure about any 100 peso unlisurf package now like SUN offers which includes 3 days surfing

Smart Bro now has two 'unlisurf' packages  (September 17, 2010)  P100 2 days and P200 for 5 days.  http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=612574&publicationSubCategoryId=66

Smart has eliminated their 50 peso one day load it seems.  So you muay want to switch to SUN or Globe which still offers the one day for 50 pesos and in fact Sun offers 3 hours for 25 pesos and 3 eays for 100 pesos or 7 days for 250 pesos.
50 pesos one day or 5 days is 220.  I would suggest that the 5 days is better at SMART at only 200 Pesos.

There is also a 100 peso package (you can send a text to unlisurf from your smart usb and but you must have 2 extra pesos load, as the message costs 1 peso and you must maintain 1 peso load.

yuga blog is reporting today December 3rd, 2009

Smart Budy Unlimited mobile internet at 50/day  04Dec09 Smart is currently offering an unlimited mobile internet package for Smart Buddy subscribers. For as low as P50, you can enjoy unlimited mobile internet for 24 hours. You can browse and download anything, no website restrictions.

YOU CAN SEE THE EXACT DETAILS NOW AT THE SMART    http://smart.com.ph/buddy/promos/UNLI+Surf+Plans.htm

Also available are P300 for 7 days and P1,200 for 30 days. To activate, just visit m.smart.com.ph/surf on your mobile phone.

That didn’t take too long. Just a couple of weeks after Sun Cellular offered unlimited 3G internet
at Php50 per day, Smart has also come up with the same with Unli Surf 50.
Check out the following daily, weekly and monthly rates.
unli surf 50

That’s Php50 for 24 hours, Php300 for 1 week (7 days) or Php1,200 for a month (30 days). You activate this plan by visiting m.smart.com.ph/surf on your mobile phone.

This is intended for use on your mobile phone but as the comments at then end indicate it can be used on your regular plug it after registration from your cell phone and payment.

Compare this to Smart’s existing SmartBro Plug-it Postpaid which costs Php1,500 a month, the Unli Surf offer looks cheaper.

The previous Surf Plans (Php20/hour) and Web Unli Plans (Php20/day/site unlimited) are still available.
Comment one
OK SYA SA WEB, EVEN SA USB PLUG IT. MAKE SURE TO USE THE APN (INTERNET). REGISTER USING UR MOBILE THEN USE UR FON AS A MODEM OR USE IT WITH USB PLUG IT.ENJOY UNLIMITED WEB BROWSING.

Comment two
I’m currently using it via smartbro (ZTE mf627 usin “internet” as the APN) 3g Dongle and now enjoying its unlimited web browsing.
You can even download torrents with this unli setup *evil grin*.

Take note that you need to subscribe using a 2g/3g phone via wap as when you do this on using the USB dongle you will automatically subscribe to the regular plan which is 10php/30mins.

Another blogger indicates hi abe! i called smart to ask for the keyword to register for this service, the CS told me that this service is only available for Blackberry users. But u never mentioned it here that its only for blackberry users. hmmmm… it seems like SMART CS are not properly informed about this kind of promo?  Seems their website can't keep up with their promos either, very poor marketing I think.

MY COMMENT: SMART WEBSITE DOES NOT SEEM TO INDICATE THIS AS ONLY LIMITED TO BLACKBERRY YOU CAN SEE THE EXACT DETAILS NOW AT THE SMART    http://smart.com.ph/buddy/promos/UNLI+Surf+Plans.htm

Review of Smart Bro Prepaid

From the blog thefilipinoentrepreneur Comparing it to smart bro prepaid, the only significant disadvantage is the cost (there are other minor things like can’t log-in to BPI online banking).  At 2Mb per second I assume this might be the fastest prepaid broadband in the Philippines.  Read the full posting here http://www.thefilipinoentrepreneur.com/2009/11/08/review-smart-bro-prepaid.htm

-----------
From Tonycruz website link follows below.    More and more Filipinos have again gone wireless to connect to the internet. Recently, the three major wireless telcos have pushed down the cost of their wireless broadband modems or dongles to as low as P888 in a common effort to outsell competitors. The competition has gone so fierce that rivals Smart and Globe have come out with ads claiming their respective wireless broadband service is faster. Curiously, both did not include Sun in their ads.  Read an up to date review of the three services, speeds, cost comparison at this bloggers site  (although he did not include the new P2000 unlimited plan from Globe and Globe & Smart offer of P20 a day for surfing  certain social sites or the new unlimited Blackberry surfing from SMART daily rate or the SMART BRO Share it at P999 a month. )   Read his comparisons and excellent chart  here  but you will have to highlight the site as its hard to read in brown http://tonyocruz.com/?p=2619
The blogger writes Globe and Smart are apparently still stingy in offering and approving applications for postpaid Globe Tattoo and SmartBro accounts. Sun Cellular has taken advantage of this by offering the widest choices for postpaid subscribers.
But SUN has made available an Easy Broadband 799 Plan which requires only the submission of one ID and the advanced payment of two monthly service fees, and without any contract. Those already with a modem or dongle can also avail of the SBW 799 SIM Only Plan – again without a long list of requirements and with a short contract of just six months.

SMART BRO plug-it internet annouces per minute rate promo

I wrote last week in my Telecommunications  blog that why does SMART use a complicated formula to charge you in 30 minute blocks rather than charging you actual per minutes used. If you sign in at 8:15 for example, you only really get 15 minutes before the 8:30 blocks comes up.They should just charge by the minute and be finished with it, why do they treat customers this way?

I am happy to say in full page ads this week, SMART Bro has annouced that per minute charging is now being offered. But its only for those that register at
http: smart.com.ph/connect
and the promo only lasts for now until October 15, 2009

The SMART BRO Share it review has been very popular so I have now added resources on the SMART BRO plug it usb modem available both as pre paid and post paid (1500 a month unlimited or 10 peso per 30 minutes)

Globe tattoo unlocked, SUN USN unlocked, SMART BRO plug it unlocked

Friday, October 30, 2009

yes, a good heart from www.filhacks.com are generating unlock codes for free. when i asked about unlocking my huawei e-1552 at a local cellphone repair shop, they bid me for 400 pesos. why would i pay for that steep price when you can really get answers from the internet.

how to unlock? simply replace the sim card on your usb modem such as globe tattoo, smart, sun dongles and it will auctomatically detect a change on it and ask for you the unlock codes. you have a limit of 10 tries and its screwed. unlocking the codes needs the IMEI number and model. i couldnt find a tool to generate it but, a lot of people offers to unlock the codes for you. others make money in exchange for the code.

once you have the code just type it in, then make a new profile with empty settings with just the default data only. then connect with the operator of your choice and voila you got yourself a mobile internet access.

Unlock Huawei Smartbro Prepaid, Globe Tattoo and Sun Broadband
why would you need to open-line your usb modem? its because if you do some traveling and needed some access on the field, and you are locked to just one carrier. signal depends on location so you just easily switch to a different carrier that has a good signal in that area you are in. so that you can maximize the speed and save money of buying another modem from another carrier.  http://yellowbars.blogspot.com/2009/10/globe-tattoo-unlocked.html

LongCheer WM66 is the modem sold with the SMART Bro pre-paid kit. It is locked to SMART. You can get the SUN or Globe modem if there is no HUAWEI usb modem and get it unlocked on SULIT and then use it with SMART as well as it has a plug in for an antenna which would definitely increase your signal if placed near a window or buy the antenna panel from the link below which will plug into the plug it from SUN.

SUN & Globe uses the HUAWEI E160 and it has a connection on side for an external antenna which is nice. You can get unlocked at http://www.sulit.com.ph/ just type SUN unlock and you will get the instructions how to load the sign it details for SUN, SMART or Globe after it is unlocked. I have tested the service and it works.

MY REVIEW OF SMART BRO PLUG IT USB Modem

September 5, 2009 by philippinetech
FLASH News SMART BRO has increased load that comes with the 999 plugit to 300 from the previous 100 load to compete with Globe’s reduced price of 895 for their plug it. The offer is good until the end of October 2009 just like Globes offer and you get 100 pesos immediately upon using and the 200 pesos comes after two days.
smart bro plugit 300 load

SMART BRO announces per minute charging but still makes it difficult why????

Monday, September 14, 2009

SMART has maybe reacted to the strong Congressional statements about disappearing load and decided to give an option to Plug it subscribers but still makes it difficult to achieve as you can only do it while you are using your plug it and not from any computer and you must spend your load to sign up at their website and then after signing in choosing the option to get per minute charging and note this is only a promo and not permanent (yet but I hope they see the light).

The sign up procedure is here. http://smart.com.ph/bro/Features.htm
But again they make it difficult to keep track of your time on this one minute charging, if not impossible and so you have to keep checking back to your regular load balance to see if it has started to go down. Again its so easy to give the customer the tools right on the screen of the plug it rather than making you go online to find this limited information if you want to save money and not loose your 30 minute load you paid for.

One feature they have added like SUN already has is the ability to also text while online from your plug it sim but again only until the promo is over!!

Some of the information below is in their FAQ after you sign into your account.

MY REVIEW OF SMART BRO PLUG IT

Monday, August 31, 2009

Smart BRO PREPAID PLUG IT, the Smart Bro broadband internet service that allows you to surf the net anywhere there’s a PC! Absolutely no Monthly Service Fee since it’s prepaid on pre paid or 1500 unlimited or 799 for 80 hours!

Also read my review here of the SMART BRO SHARE IT Router for 5 persons unlimited internet SMART Bro Share It Internet now Unlimited

The Smart BRO USB modem is a small, palm-sized device that you can carry with you wherever you go. And anytime you need to surf, just plug it into the USB port of your PC, and you’ll get connected in a flash. Broadband Internet use is P10 for every 30 minutes.

SmartBro Share It was first introduced last March 2009. It used to be available for Php999 a month with a 90-hour free allocation. Smart has now moved this offer to “unlimited”.

Speed : Up to 2 Mbps
No. of Hours use : *UNLIMITED good for up to 5 PCs
Connection : Wireless Connection (Via Wifi Router)
Requirements : Subscriber [...]

A review can be found here and it includes some speed tests results at his location http://racoma.com.ph/archives/smart-bro-plugit-prepaid-kit-review

One commentor said: I honestly think it is a waste of money. Since you already have a 3G-enabled phone, you could have just bought a USB cord that will connect your phone to your PC, then browse the Internet using your phone as modem. That way, your phone’s battery won’t be drained while you’re surfing the net. And by the way, the speed of this method as compared to your use of the USB kit from Smart is the same.

The default SIM for the prepaid kit blocks VPN ports and other non-standard ports for that matter. my workaround is this, i purchase a new prepaid smart sim (standard type, 40php ea.) and reconfigure the software of the dongle to use the APN “internet” instead of the APN “SMARTBRO” so far, using this setup lets me connect to our office VPN (PPTP and L2LP/IPSEC)

you could also check if your area is 3G ready. You can call and ask Smart’s customer service. you can check this vid for ref.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO0NkccUhsc

Another reviewer said: So far, so good. It’s been a reliable mobile connection for me, for those times I need to connect while out of the office, or when my home-office connection is simply too slow.

I do get slow speeds when the cell site I’m connected to has non-existent or weak HSDPA signals. With this, it tops at 300+ Kbps. Where there are no 3G signals, it tops at 200+ Kbps (EDGE) or 56 Kbps (GPRS). It sucks, but when it’s your only option you will take it. So far I’m able to access most services and ports I need, including instant messengers, FTP, cPanel and the like, where previously these wireless networks imposed some prohibitions with non-HTTP ports.

The provided software was a breeze to install. The USB modem itself has read-only storage, so the drivers for Windows and OS X (Tiger and Leopard) are included. You may have to download drivers and do some tweaks for Linux, though.

You can always just dialup using your OS’s dialer, but the bundled software gives you more options, like the ability to detect what kind of signal you are currently getting, and the ability to lock connection to certain types only (the connection moves across HSDPA, 3G, GPRS, and EDGE depending on signal strength and availability)

And finally this reviewer said

But now that I have the SMART BRO USB, I am thinking and most likely will have my other connection cancelled. Why? For one thing, this new SMART BRO Plan 1500 is also unlimited. In addition, it is much faster than my regular SMART BRO fixed line and goes as fast as 2Mbps [ usually during the wee hours of the morning which happens to be my usual work schedule]. And best of all, it is NATIONWIDE! In fact, I have already seen and tested it work in far flung islands of the Philippines like Palawan and Mindanao and it works! Now imagine that — it actually works much better than PLDT’s wireless WeRoam. Makes me wonder what’s the difference considering that they are sister companies and both use both networks in a similar fashion? Perhaps they have certain bandwith allocation setup in place? I don’t know for sure. All I know is that I can bring this anywhere that has a mobile phone signal of SMART and I can easily access my email. The full comments from this reviewer is here http://midnightpencil.wordpress.com/2009/08/12/smart-bro-unplugged/#comment-13

You can get the SUN or Globe modem which is and get it unlocked on SULIT and then use it with SMART as well as it has a plug in for an antenna which would definitely increase your signal if placed near a window or buy the antenna panel from the link below which will plug into the plug it from SUN.

SUN uses the HUAWEI E160 and it has a connection on side for an external antenna which is nice. You can get unlocked at http://www.sulit.com.ph/ just type SUN unlock and you will get the instructions how to load the sign it details for SUN, SMART or Globe after it is unlocked. I have tested the service and it works.

There is some note online that the Modem for some users is now white Smart bro prepaid kit has now improved. It also has the same design(hardware) – white with smartbro logo – and it also has a space for micro-sd. What I’m checking now is what’s cheaper in connectio

Disadvantages of the SMART BRO plug it

1. It has no external plug for antenna

2. It charges by 30 minute blocks for 10 pesos but if you use only 10 minutes you sill pay 30 minutes and it does not carry over to next session except in rare cases of time based complicated formula. So if you sign in again after the formula passes (not 30 minute window) you have to pay again for another 30 minutes.

3. Billing sign up for the unlimited 1500 plug it post paid is way to complicated and I continue to insist that SMART could save staff time and stop wasting customer time by issuing the plug it immediately like they do on the pre paid/ They can easily cut anyone off that doesn't pay in fact the computer could even do it automatically.

4. 2 year lock in contracts are way too long for such a service! And why don't they allow customers a trial period before lockin so customers can test the speed and satisfaction with the service rather than causing later customer dissatisfaction everywhere and clogging customer service centers with concerns, wasting staff resources and erroding stock profits as a result.

5. If you use the per minute charges you load expires in a few days while if you use the 30 minute charges (and loose a lot) you get two months. You should get 2 months regardless! They cheat you by reducing the period when you use per minute charges.

What I like about it

1. Nationwide rather than province wide like the crippled share it product.

2. Per minute charging but much to complicated to avail and keep track of balance in per minute use.

SMART 1500 unlimited, Sun 799 unlimited

SMART 1500 unlimited, Sun 799 unlimited

Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) on Wednesday announced that it is offering unlimited Internet to Smart Broadband Inc.’s (Smart Bro) postpaid subscribers.Smart Broadband is the Internet provider subsidiary of Smart.

SmartBro via HSDPA/UMTS/GPRS

Plan 1500 - unlimited , no details on Smart Bro website on sign up requirement, hope they match SUN requirements which are simple (see below), SMART makes you take 2 year contract requirement, SUN has none (no contract requirement easy 799)! (see update on SMART requirements at end of this post, still more difficult or invading your banking privacy, rather than just a simple paid bill, SMART already has your 1500 so they have little risk, not like a phone!) And why not make it instant approval rather than a complicated followup and come back? Heck this is an internet company now it should use the internet to get instant approvals and emails to customers such as monthly bills and approvals! Or do they want to be more like the government that everyone in the office has to sign to justify their salary hehe, joke.

All come with a USB modem. HSDPA up to 2mbps only in selected areas

Comparison to SUN and Globe

Globe 230 hours a month is 1,499 and up to 2 mbps
http://tattoo.globe.com.ph/tattooProducts.php

SUN 799 month USB 2 mbps unlimited

http://www.suncellular.com.ph/broadband.php

Note the simple Application Requirements for Sun, compared to SMART many steps

Completely filled-out Service Application Form, Valid ID, A Competitor Bill or Proof of Billing/Proof of Income And no contract under their easy broadband plan 799 pesos a month. Such a joy to have a company that cuts the paperwork, my comment!
Plan 999 2-in-1 Deal includes a free cell phone
www.leheart.110mb.com
http://www.leheart.110mb.com/sunbroadband.html

Update: SMART Officials added that applying for a Smart Bro Plan 1500 subscription just need to fill out an application form, and present a valid proof of identification, a proof of address, and a financial document such as one’s latest income tax return, current bank statement, or a bank certification letter, at any Smart Wireless Center nationwide. (Why not with a retailer dealer as well?) My comment: Wonder why they can't make it standard requirements like the other phone companies, since they already have your downpayment of 1,500 which will cover their usb device, and just ask for a previous billing at your current address with proof of payment or very simple like Globe just an ID and one month payment? Wonder why they want your bank statement for a no risk on their part transaction unlike phone companies (but in fact Globe landline allows you just an ID, one month payment,) or in my case, previous bill from a SMART account, etc?

Best Deals Rate Chart of Mobile 3G Internet Providers Plug it

So we could better see which 3g internet provider is giving us the best deals, I made this simple chart to compare postpaid and prepaid mobile 3G plans of Globe, Smart and Sun Cellular.

The chart is short and simple — compare rates for prepaid mobile 3g surfing, postpaid plans as well as ongoing bundled promos.
3g internet

Both Smart and Sun Cellular are running bucket offers — Smart has the Php50 per 5 hours and Php100 per 12 hours promo, while Sun Cellular is offering their SWB at Php100 per 6 hours and Php300 per 24 hours. Globe doesn’t have this kind of bucket plans.

For postpaid, both Globe and Smart offer 60 hours free internet for Php799 a month. However, Sun Cellular is offering unlimited internet for the same monthly rate.
That gives Sun Cellular the cheapest offering at Php1.1 per hour, followed by Smart at Php12.50 then Globe at Php13.30/hour.

Globe Tattoo vs Smart Bro vs Sun Broadband?

Globe Tattoo vs Smart Bro vs Sun Broadband?

WHICH ONE IS THE BEST? This is the million dollar question of all mobile internet users in the Philippines nowadays :)

Is cost a good measure? Not really. The cost of connection is not a factor since all the 3 networks are offering very comparable rates.

How about speed? All 3 providers are also offering HSDPA, 3G, EDGE, & GPRS connectivity.

So what's the verdict?
- Use Smart Bro when surfing on remote places in the Philippine
- Globe Tattoo is the neutral choice but definitely not the fastest. (Personally, I use Globe tatoo since I can easily use my Globe Post Paid line to add some load to it):)
- It's advisable to use Sun Broadband when you're not too mobile and just surf on coffee shops on key cities in Metro Manila and in the Philippines. If I don't have the convenience of having a Globe Post paid line to reload my Tattoo,I'll definitely go for Sun Broadband. :)

Yahoo answers comment Globe Tattoo vs Smart Bro vs Sun Broadband?
I am experienced with Globe, Globe Tattoo, Sun, Sun Wireless, Smart Bro, Smart Wireless, and PLDT DSL. Now back to Smart Bro.. if you are Using LAptop and roam around in Manila better Smart wireless prepaid or postpaid(1900 pesos). If you are stay at home better use Smart Bro (999 pesos /month).

Smart BRo speed 41-45KB/s (320-388Kbp/s)
Smart Wireless speed 23-30KB/s (180-240 kbp/s)
Globe Tattoo speed 12-26 KB/s
Globe wireless speed 29-35 KB/s
Sun depends on Area..
PLDT is wired connection...
Bayantell is wired connection..
Globe tattoo, Smart bro or Sun Broadband Wireless?

=if you are an urban guy and wants good quality - go globe. globe has the best investment in 3g and 3.5g technology and has excellent signal quality in urban areas

if you are a traveller and relies on good coverage - go smart. smart has signal where globe and sun does not have one.

if you living in manila and wants value for money - go sun. unlimited is the way to go!

=Well said, exactly what I'm thinking as well, not to mention personal experience about the three providers. To add to that, Sun has been rolling out the newest technology among the three and it's just a matter of time before it overtakes the other two providers in terms of wireless broadband products.

SUN INTERNET USB PLUG IT NOW GIVES 180 HOURS FREE SURFING READ REVIEWS
Sun just finally met the competition a little by now offering 180 free for 30 days when you buy their 1895 usb plug it modem. Smart now offers modem for 999 and Globe for 895
http://suninternet.wordpress.com/

Sun Broadband Wireless P250 7 days unlimited internet

No. Currently, international roaming feature for Smart Bro Prepaid is not yet available.

17. Are subscribers guaranteed the published speeds?

Smart Bro’s published speeds are the maximum possible speeds given in the broadband connection. While the speed can often burst to such levels, there are times when forms of technical interference such as noise, electrical shorts or software problems can interfere with the speed, which are beyond Smart’s control.

Also, very busy websites like Yahoo and MSN occasionally suffer from slowdowns, as well as graphic-heavy sites such as mySpace, Multiply or Friendster. The servers of most of these major sites are often located in other countries, such as the United States, which can further degrade performance due to the distance the signal must travel.

It is also highly recommended that you are situated in a 3G/HSDPA covered location to enjoy the maximum speed the service can deliver. (Link on the coverage)

18. Can the modem be infected or be a carrier of a virus being a USB device?

The USB modem cannot be infected or be a carrier of a virus since it has no storage capacity.

19. Where can I get a replacement battery for the USB modem?

The USB modem does not require a battery. It shall automatically obtain power supply once plugged into your PC or laptop.

20. Can I use my Smart Bro Prepaid SIM card for voice calls and/or outgoing SMS, with my mobile phone?

The Smart Bro Prepaid SIM card is a customized SIM that can only be used for data. Voice and outgoing SMS have been disabled. Credits cannot be used for voice calls and/or SMS even if SIM card is transferred to a mobile phone.

21. I have an existing non-Smart SIM card (Globe, Touch Mobile or Sun). Can I possibly use my non-Smart SIM into the USB modem?

No. The Smart Bro USB modem is SIM-locked to Smart, thus, you will not be able to use your non-Smart GSM SIM into the device.
